At Yarra Ranges Tech School one of our focuses for this year is to have more of a student voice so that we can better accommodate our programs and facilities to suit the students. We were incredibly excited to host our first Student Ambassador Group meeting in March with students from Upper Yarra Secondary and Mount Lilydale Mercy College.
Discussions have already brought to light requests for more programs centred around biology, animal studies and space as well as beginning to brainstorm themes for future Design Thinking competitions.
We discussed how the Student Ambassadors could ask their peers back at school for their opinions on what they would like to see our future courses centred around.
The group will meet again next term, but already this information has gotten myself and the YRTS team to think about what this may look like and identify potential stakeholders to further investigate. We are also very excited to be able to kick start our plans to create a program called ‘Mission to Mars’ with the students input.
We are looking forward to seeing the Student Ambassadors again next term and we are open to students joining from all of our partner schools.
