Yarra Ranges Tech School is part of the Victorian Government's commitment to make Victoria the 'Education State'. We draw on the Lilydale Lakeside Campus, facilities and our stakeholders to introduce students to innovative leading-edge technologies as a means of problem solving real-world challenges.
We also introduce teachers to new pedagogies and ways to bring technology into the classroom. Our programs emphasise critical Enterprise skills in addition to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) skills required for the 21st century.
Staff at the Yarra Ranges Tech School come from a wide variety of backgrounds bringing a vast array of skills and knowledge into the development and facilitation of programs to support our vision.
Travis Burroughs is a renowned STEM educator and visionary leader. With a distinguished background in STEM education, including roles as Director of Student Led Programs at Templestowe College, and STEM consultant, Travis has left an enduring mark on the field. He is the sole Australian inducted into the esteemed STEM Hall of Fame, reflecting his exceptional contributions. Travis’s boundless energy and expertise are set to usher in an exciting new chapter as he continues to inspire and empower the next generation of innovators.
Matt Pattison is a Science and Maths trained teacher with a background in the Rail and Software Development industries. He has a drive to share his love of STEAM with students who may be the next generation of scientists, designers, engineers, and other careers that may not even exist yet. Matt holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Software) and a Masters of Information Systems and is passionate about engaging students from all backgrounds in STEM, or STEAM, or whatever people want to call the fun stuff he gets paid to do. His favourite part of the job is seeing students’ faces light up with enthusiasm.
Bridget has a background in art exhibitions, language education and cross-cultural events. Having sixteen years’ experience teaching English as a second language to primary aged children, secondary students, and adults in Taiwan and Australia, her understanding of teaching pedagogy and passion for engaging learners is evident in her creativity and energy. Additionally, Bridget has a diverse skill set in meeting stakeholders needs as a manager at a language school in Asia and building company student to teacher ratios and has previously worked as a Graphic Designer and an illustrator. Having earnt an award for promoting LGBTIQ+ inclusive practices for international students and won an action research grant for Socratic Circles at Monash College, she passionately gives back to the educational community. Her educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Graphic Design at Swinburne, a CELTA Cambridge certificate from RMIT, a Master of Applied Linguistics at Melbourne University, and is currently in the midst of completing a Master of Teaching in primary and secondary at Deakin. Bridget is eager to delve into the world of Tech and Design thinking and bring an arts and literacy lens to the Tech School and promote diversity and inclusion in cultural events in the Yarra Ranges.
Matt Ausling is a highly skilled IT professional with extensive experience in IT tech support, a deep passion for technology, scripting, and server configurations. With a strong technical background and a keen eye for detail. Matt’s expertise lies in providing top-notch tech support to users, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, and resolving complex technical problems with ease. He is well-versed in scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, and Bash, and has a knack for automating tasks to streamline operations and increase efficiency. Matt is also skilled in server configurations, ensuring optimal performance and security for networks and systems. He has a keen eye for identifying vulnerabilities and implementing appropriate measures to protect against cyber threats. Matt’s dedication to staying up to date with the latest advancements in technology and his continuous learning mindset make him a valuable asset in the ever-evolving field of IT. He is known for his excellent communication skills, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities, making him a trusted resource for both colleagues and clients alike. With his deep passion for technology, extensive experience in IT tech support, scripting, and server configurations, Matt Ausling is a seasoned IT professional who continues to make a significant impact in the field of information technology.
Chris comes to YRTS following roles at Swinburne University’s KIOSC, Museums Victoria and Questacon. He has developed an understanding of how students learn and the ability to design and deliver innovative STEM-based programs using his Degree in Theatre to add the edutainment element. He believes it is vital to develop constructive relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and the wider community to continuously improve knowledge and understanding and the human endeavour to use technology to improve the future earth.
