Description
How is technology reshaping the way we grow, harvest and deliver food?
In this flexible one or two-day program, students explore the future of agriculture through emerging technologies, local case studies, and real-world problem solving. Using the Yarra Ranges as a living case study, they investigate how automation, place, environment, and innovation shape food production, processing, and distribution.
Students examine local agricultural sites to explore how technology, geographic factors and land use, influence what food is grown and how it reaches consumers. Through hands-on activities, they investigate challenges such as crop health, biosecurity, water use, and environmental conditions while using technologies including drones, smart sensors, data dashboards, and digital modelling.
The experience can be extended through a design challenge, where students develop and pitch solutions to authentic agricultural problems. Connecting digital technologies, science, sustainability, and geography, the program highlights pathways into agri-tech, food production, environmental management, and food innovation.
