Women in STEAM series

August 21, 2020

During National Science Week, Yarra Ranges Tech School launched its Women in STEAM series. This series was designed to highlight the fantastic women working in a range of STEM related industries and demonstrate the importance of passion, pursuing your heart and lifelong learning. We kicked off with Jessie Sanbrook a graphic designer and illustrator who studied locally and is now based in Berlin working with a variety of tech and innovative manufacturing companies. Jessie took those attending the virtual seminar through her journey from school to her current role emphasising the importance of building networks, following your dreams and just “going for it!”

Two days later we were back to hear from Casey Hansen and Bec Welsford, two environmental advisors currently working on the Level Crossing Removal Project within the Yarra Ranges. Casey and Bec took us through journeys across Australia and New Zealand, providing an entertaining insight into both the work and activities they do in their role but also their encounters with wildlife and local communities. They concluded their presentation outlining their work on the current project.

Both presentations generated a number of great questions from participants and we look forward to the next speaker in the series, to be announced shortly. Schools who would like to access the recordings of these webinars should contact YRTS-bookings@boxhill.edu.au
