This year Yarra Ranges Tech School had the privilege to attend the EduTech Australia Exhibition at The Melbourne Exhibition Centre, as part of the Department of Education stand. Not only were we able to showcase our technology and programs but Ashley Van Krieken, Director of YRTS, and Brooke Kogelman, Project Manager for Lilydale District and Yarra Valley Education Plan, gave a presentation on the Koorie Student Program.

EduTech Australia is an innovative digital education organisation, committed to fostering collaboration and creativity in education and business. They support schools, teachers, corporate, government, and individuals to thrive in an ever-changing and evolving world. EduTech allowed us the opportunity to network with other exhibitors and to speak with other attendees.

We shared our stand with the other Tech Schools from around Victoria, all showcasing the different technology and programs they have to offer their students. Our stand displayed our LittleBits technology which gives students an introduction into circuitry and coding that would lead to advanced coding. We also displayed and demonstrated our Hololens and Oculus VR headsets, which are used for our game development program. The HoloLens displayed the 360 shots of the designs created by the students in our Koorie Student Program.

Ashley and Brooke were both very excited to be able to present at the EducTech conference about the success of the inaugural Koorie Student Program which started in 2021. The Koorie Student Program is a Human Centred Design Thinking (HCDT) program created by Yarra Ranges Tech School as part of the broader Koorie Engagement Strategy across the Upper Yarra and Lilydale Education cluster. Its aims are to engage and develop indigenous students in the area of STEAM and its application to future careers. To develop a sense of community among students from different schools and to develop a connection back to country.

We look forward to attending EduTech 2023 and getting the chance to network with other attendees and exhibitors.
