Yarra Valley Edible Forest

Nestled within the grounds of Yarra Valley Estate in Dixons Creek, just an hour northeast of Melbourne, the Yarra Valley Edible Forest is a thriving one-acre permaculture food forest born from a bare paddock transformed through years of composting and careful design. Built on permaculture and hügelkultur principles, it now supports over 350 edible and medicinal plant species—each chosen to nourish, heal, or enhance the ecosystem. Visitors can explore themed zones like tea plants, bush tucker, wetlands, edible flowers, and berry woodlands during guided “Tour, Taste & Educate” experiences, learning how to incorporate these remarkable plants into their daily lives, while witnessing a self-sustaining, chemical-free garden come alive as both an educational sanctuary and a living, nourishing ecosystem.
